Scott Newby - Managing Director

NewbyCore Consulting Limited was founded in 2017 by Scott Newby. After graduating with a Masters degree in Business Management from Heriot-Watt University in 2003, Scott has since gained over 12 years experience of working for the UK’s biggest financial services company, Lloyds Banking Group, in a variety of managerial and senior roles.


Originally employed by Bank of Scotland, Scott played an integral role in ensuring one of the company’s key divisions was successfully merged with Lloyds Bank. An advocate of personal development, Scott was part of a select group of managers enrolled on to a leadership programme, devised to support the senior leaders and directors of the future.


In more recent times, Scott has held senior leadership positions within Scottish Widows, reponsible for over 100 colleagues. It is here that Scott really honed his skills and found his niche as an outstanding leader, coach and mentor; creating a department which was both high performing for the business and a great place to work and progress for colleagues. Scott is an Associate of the Institute of Consulting.

Scott has great versatility and can transfer his skill-set across all sectors. He is the founder of North Merchiston Vale Football Club, and is currently club chairman, having spent the last 8 years as manager.

Scott has also been a volunteer for a variety of charities and long time supporter of Breast Cancer Now.This involvement with the Third Sector, combined with two years experience as a Relationship Manager for the Not For Profit sector, ensures Scott’s skills are perfect for this industry, in addition to the corporate world.

Last but not least, Scott is a family man. He is married with two young children, so when not working he is kept very busy!

Pamela Newby - Director

Pamela studied Business and Marketing in Dundee, during which time she worked for VisitScotland in London and The Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto, Canada. 


After graduating in 2004, Pamela moved to Edinburgh to work at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) in the CA Education marketing team.  After two years, Pamela moved on to take a role in the marketing team at HBJ Gateley Wareing (now Addleshaw Goddard Solicitors) and progressed to be the National Brand Manager of the firm across it's UK and Dubai offices. It was here she honed her business development and events skills managing conferences and events for 500+ people.


Pamela then followed her passion for charity work, and played a key role in setting up the Scotland fundraising team for the UK's largest breast cancer charity, Breakthrough Breast Cancer (now Breast Cancer Now) as their Fundraising Manager. During this time Pamela spoke at several major fundraising conferences and sat on the committee of the Institute of Fundraising's Special Interest Group for Trusts & Foundations. 


Using this experience, after having her first child, Pamela moved on to establish the fundraising function of international charity Hospices of Hope in Scotland. Pamela is the author of The Edinburgh Food Girl blog, which combines her two passions; writing and eating!


Pamela is a qualified member of the Insititute of Fundraising and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in events, social media, marketing and the not-for-profit sector to NewbyCore Consulting Limited.

John Russell - Associate Consultant

John is a business change and process transformation leader with significant experience across multiple industrial sectors and more recently consulting. He has an in-depth knowledge of these approaches and how they add value in automotive, telco, insurance, commercial banking and energy. John’s experience also covers the shaping and delivery of CI Interventions, capability transfer and coaching of senior leaders. He also has experience of shaping group wide Process Architectures and was a member of the team that won the IQPC European best start up programme award in 2010. John has led risk management teams within a highly regulated environment and implementing data and fraud governance frameworks. He has also led large change programmes and has specific experience of third party supplier selection.


John lives in Edinburgh and is married with two children. Most of his time is taken up with his wonderful family, he also enjoys golf and has a passion for classic cars.

Lesley Richards - Associate Consultant

Since graduating with an MA from the University of Glasgow, Lesley has gained 25 years experience in the UK’s biggest communications companies and then directed her skills into freelance initiatives.


Lesley’s diverse experience has led to a thoroughly well rounded experience of all aspects of a businesses product life cycle and optimising each stage.  From new product development, process improvement, delivering better customer service and risk management, to product withdrawal and replacement. Often sought after to run specific projects and taskforces she has negotiated outsources with TUPE transfers and contract novations as well as achieving profit improvement initiatives.  During this time Lesley was also selected for trouble-shooting assignments and to assist with cultural and organisational change: organising conferences, designing and delivering training, providing individual coaching and recommending on technology adoption programs.


Key to success in these areas was Lesley’s ability to engage dispirit parties and ensure stakeholder support at all levels.


From product management and business development Lesley moved into sales and bid focused roles to secure some of the largest wins of telecommunications and mobile contracts at that time with a blend of gravitas, people focus and genuine friendliness. She has delivered bids and tenders, acquisition sales and as an Account Director for NHS Scotland.


Lesley has worked with clients in finance, utilities, retail, technology, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, professional services, logistics and public sector in the UK. She has also negotiated and delivered contracts in Europe and the USA so brings a wealth of knowledge about a wide variety of business types, crossover working practices and opportunity optimisation.


Lesley summarises her corporate experience as business process re-engineering with a heart. Both the people and the numbers matter and she loves finding solutions that work for both.


Alongside her corporate experience Lesley has set up and run two small businesses:  one in specialist scuba training and the other in catering.  She was specifically responsible for brand design and development, marketing and training delivery for the scuba business and is responsible for everything in the catering business!


Lesley moved back home to Scotland 8 years ago and alongside her corporate roles also free-lances as a chef and baker.  She hasn’t lost her travel bug though provided it’s a hot climate and includes sailing or scuba diving.
